Sometimes, this has to be enough.

Today, spring break for Bubba begins. (Oh, yah, he has told us he no longer wants to be called Bubba, but that's a whole other story.)

So, this afternoon, we'll break out of school early and hit the road to Portland for the next 5 days. We'll stay with family and see the sights of my beloved hometown.

I feel pretty luck that he is so excited to spend this one-on-one time with me. Because I'm sure that won't last too much longer.

Who knows? He may surprise me.

Funny boy.

A couple of funnies from Bubba over the past few days.

On the way home from swimming last week, he was telling his sister about school and the order of things, "It goes preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade..." You get the point. Then he was explaining that "after college, you just walk around until you find someone to marry."

He's also been really interested in how RD and I met. He only recently figured out that RD and I did not grow up together, but rather, met each other after college. I was telling him that I met RD when I was 22, and he was 33. Bubba paused for a moment and then said, "If Daddy's so much older, why are you so much smarter?"

I ask myself that all the time, kid.
