Going back on my word: 2008 resolutions, etc.
After my babbling in my last post that I don't really do resolutions, I thought more about it. Maybe it would be a good thing to get some goals written down in black and white. And, not only that, but on the internet for everyone to see. Goody for me!
Here they are, in no particular order.
- Keep a better sleep schedule. I am notoriously bad about staying up too late and not getting enough sleep. I definitely notice how much better I feel when I get adequate sleep.
- Get back on board with meal planning. Once upon a time, I would plan a week's worth of meals on Saturday and shop on Sunday. We were all eating better, more diverse foods and enjoyed sitting down together (as Bubba would say, "We're eating together as a FAMILY!"). This fall, RD's house needed to be worked on and our weekends went to crap. We've both agreed to make this a priority again.
- FINALLY lose the last 10-15 pounds. I just need to do it, and move on; because I am SO OVER IT. I'm teaming up with a couple of friends at work in this endeavor. Since I don't do anything half-assed, I've got spreadsheets set up for weekly weigh-ins, menu planning, and workouts. I think being accountable to my friends will be really helpful to me. We're planning to reward ourselves with a trip to Las Vegas in May when we have met our goals. Should I let you know how I'm doing? Our kick-off is January 7.
- Be less distracted with the kiddos. Sometimes I think the one thing that will be etched in their minds from their childhood will be be saying, "In a minute!" There always something around the house for me to be doing: dishes, laundry, cleaning, etc. I know I can get those house chores completed and still have time to get down on the floor and play with the more.
- Do more with less. If you're not reading The Simple Family, then you should be. Rachel writes about their "hopes to go from a "typical" suburban family to a greener, simpler and (hopefully) a happier one". While I am not sure I'm ready to jump in with both feet like Rachel, I have gotten great inspiration and ideas from them. I'm going to keep reading, learning and doing.
Even though I'm sure there are many personal improvements I should make than just those listed above (just ask The Sister); I'm going to stop there will the hope that I will be able to make some progress on my goals in 2008.
Happy New Year!
I need 1, 2, 4 and 5. I was thinking about the sleep thing just before I read this.
